Q: What is REJECTS?
A: Rejects is a one-of-a-kind art book full of caricatures of regular, every-day
people, drawn at theme parks around the world by award-winning caricaturist, Joe
Bluhm. Captions and quotes accompany many of these hilarious and exaggerated images,
appealing to caricature artists, illustrators, animators, and especially non-artists
who just want a good laugh and enjoy cartooning and humor.
Q: How big is the book?
A: Rejects is a 104 page hardcover book with full-color photos and illustrations,
conveniently sized at 8.5" x 11" for those die hard artists who just HAVE to carry
cheap copy paper with them to sketch all the time, but don't want their sketches to
get ruined in their backpacks or bookbags. The cover is thick and durable, great to
carry with you and beautiful for a coffee table conversation starter.
Q: Why aren't there more photographs of the actual people?
A: Rejects is about the art of caricature and the uniqueness in each person. The
reader is invited to peek through the eyes of the artist and see how he saw the
individuals. Instead of looking for a constant comparison of the subject and the
drawing, each page becomes a unique cartoon caricature with a vivid story and
spot-on likeness that needs not be questioned. It is to be enjoyed as art, and seen
as uniquely as each human is. If likeness is a concern, the opening page of the book
will settle that notion immediately, by showing a few comparison images to rest the
reader at ease.
Q: Is REJECTS a How-To book?
A: No. It is better. In the pages of Rejects, Joe shows over a hundred drawings
completed over several years. Each one is unique and individual. The first thing to
learn in caricature, is that while keeping a likeness, each drawing must be different.
Rejects can be a powerful learning tool, as it even contains a section where readers
can see many photos of the process of a drawing; a peek at how each sketch is
completed in only a few minutes, with both a photo of the subject and the finished art.
Inspiration is a valuable tool in learning how to create art and caricatures, and in
Rejects you will find plenty.
Q: How do I get a copy of REJECTS?
A: You can order your copy right here!
